I saw The Beaver with Mel Gibson last night at the Rhotana cinema. Pirates of the Carribean had opened the night before so I decided to go to the Rhotana as it is a cinema not located at a mall, in fact it is next to the Rhotana Hotel, which is owned by Sheikh Khalifa, the president of the UAE. I noticed a lot of white SUVs parked outside. White SUVs, especially with heavily tinted windows, are indicative of Emirati owners and CID vehicles. Was there a wedding party in the Rhotana or were there a lot of 'shebabs' ('shebab' is Arabic for 'guy' and I often refer to Starbucks as "Shebabbucks" as Emirati men like to hang out there) at the local bar, which is under the Paris Gallery outside the Rhotana? I have never been in the local bar. There are two bars that cater to Muslims in Al Ain, this one, and the one attached to the Inter-Continental Hotel, which, by the way, has changed hands and is no longer called the InterCon. The Hilton I think is the oldest luxury hotel in Al Ain. It generates a lot of income from its two bars, Paco's and the Peach Garden, otherwise known as the "bitch garden" as it is the pick up spot for prostitutes. Sometimes they float over to Paco's, especially when they have attached themselves to British expats. I remember an African prostitute who was wearing tight jeans with almost half the cleavage of her compact round buttocks showing. The African ones usually wear shiny black wigs and are either from Eritrea or West Africa. There are Russian prostitutes but I have not seen any of them. H. told me last year that there were some new Chinese prostitutes in town. There is one Chinese prostitute that goes by the name of Lulu and she regularly plies her trade at Paco's. She is apparently sponsored by a Lebanese guy. She is in her forties and was formerly a farmer in China. The last time I heard she was going to set up a cat house cum massage parlor in Al Ain, bring some girls over from China. Apparently in Bureima, the sister city of Al Ain in Oman, there are already some Chinese cat house/massage parlors.
